ROLLERS/SPARKERS "HAMES"

Herein: a bulletin in which Rollers/Sparkers alert you of upcoming gigs at the Electric Picnic, DEAF and Tower Records; general news items; and a gently remarkable coincidence.

  1. After some initial birthing difficulties, our latest album "Hames" is now available in the shops more or less nationwide. It includes…
  2. … the track "C.I.E. Action Figures", which Lyric FM's John Kelly seems to like and which also appears on a CD that comes free with the latest issue of "Hot Press". The CD is to promote the Electric Picnic…
  3. … at which we have a little slot  - specifically in the Body & Soul area on Friday night around 9pm. If you can't make it…
  4. … we'll also be doing an in-store gig on Tuesday September 23rd at Tower Records (Wicklow Street) with Chequerboard. Bizzarely, a track on "Hames" happens to share a title with one on Chequerboard's recent "Penny Black" album – namely, "Ornithopter". We may mark this non-cosmic-scale coincidence by collaborating live with Chequerboard for a short time. Either way, he plans on playing around 5pm; we, around 6. And if you can't even make that gig, silly sausage that you are,…
  5. … then you may at least be able to make the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival (DEAF) Closing Party, which is in Whelan's on Sunday October 26th. More details of this will follow but we can say with some confidence that while we may on the night be playing tunes…
  6. … from our first two releases, "Geography for the Leaving" and "Second Level Crossing", which are now available for download on iTunes at knockdown prices,…
  7. … we probably won't.

"Rollers/Sparkers are a dublin based collective making some weird and wonderful electronic sounds. the album is based around 16 tracks recorded at various improvised sessions between 2005 and 2006. the sounds were then edited and enhanced in studio. the resulting sounds fall somewhere between the hypnotic looped sounds of animal collective and the early analog experiments of the bbc radiophonic workshop. the album is full of beautifully looping avant garde electronica with moments of psyche folk like tribal chanting and the outthere sounds of bands like black dice or matmos. comes in a lovely card digi pack sleeve.
